Kavita - Rootedness

The most amazing, powerful woman raised me - my grandmother. My dad died from HIV when I was four, and his mother has been my anchor since then. My uncles tried for years to control my life, especially to end my studies and get me married. They taught me that I won't be successful until I have a house, a husband, and children. But my grandmother encouraged me to move to Kranti, to study abroad, to pursue my dreams, and find my talent - singing. Now I know that success is being rooted in what *I* know is right, not what others say is right. Today, I am a full time employee at Make a Difference NGO in Bangalore, and I’m very proud that I earn enough to take care of the woman who raised me!
